Volunteers in Medicine
Creating a custom pharmacy database and drug look-up tool
The Challenge
Volunteers in Medicine is a local Bloomington, Indiana non-profit, aimed to provide free pharmacy services to those without access to medical care. However, managing their medicine inventory posed a challenge. They used an Excel sheet that required constant updates and distribution. This manual process wasted time and resources and led to errors, impacting efficiency and service. To improve inventory management, a simpler and more efficient solution was needed.
The Solution
A custom-built inventory management tool was developed specifically for the doctors at VIM. This tool proved to be invaluable as it provided them with an effortless way to monitor the current inventory levels of drugs and make informed prescriptions. Not only did it streamline the process of checking inventory, but it also allowed for seamless updates, ensuring that the new inventory levels were promptly reflected on the site. Furthermore, the tool incorporated a robust search function that enabled doctors to swiftly locate the precise drug they needed, saving them valuable time during critical moments. Thanks to these comprehensive functionalities, the custom-built inventory management tool has proven to be an indispensable asset to the doctors at VIM.
The Results
Doctors at VIM were extremely happy with the new advanced tool that had been introduced. Based on the immediate positive feedback, it was clear that the tool not only greatly impressed the staff but also made their daily tasks much easier and more efficient. The new features not only made their work procedures more streamlined but also greatly reduced the workload for the head doctor, who no longer had to go through a complex and confusing process to update the pharmacy list. With the new tool in place, updates were seamlessly integrated, making the doctor's responsibilities, as well as those of the entire staff, much simpler than ever before.
