Fortune 500 Mobile App
Integrating $1 billion of revenue from an outdated product seamlessly into an eEcommerce app
The Challenge
This major B2B corporation, with an annual revenue exceeding $8 billion, heavily relied on its customized inventory management system that catered to its users. The system made a significant contribution of over $1 billion to the company's yearly earnings. However, a predicament arose: the mobile app utilized by employees to assist customers in inventory management while in the field had become outdated, unsupported, and plagued with numerous issues. The team faced the challenge of being unable to update the app without a complete rewrite, as the entire foundation on which it was built had been deprecated. Our solution emerged in the form of integrating the functionalities of the old inventory management app into the company's customer-facing eCommerce mobile app.
The Solution
Due to differences between the company's standard eCommerce flow and inventory management flows, integrating the solutions seamlessly posed a formidable challenge. The inventory management users presented new requirements that the eCommerce app had not encountered. It was highly important to operate without an internet connection, as these users often found themselves in areas with poor connectivity. To address this, we developed an offline management feature that allowed users to perform tasks without an internet connection and submit their orders later. This project resulted in top-tier UX solutions for both user bases and modernized back-end services for inventory management, keeping the company's systems up-to-date.
The Results
Following the completion of a comprehensive feature build-out, the recently launched integrated app experience received a highly favorable response from the inventory management staff. For years, these employees had been reliant on an outdated solution, but the introduction of this new application felt like a much-needed rejuvenation. The modern UX designs, smooth workflows, and offline capabilities provided a breath of fresh air. Consequently, the app facilitated the expected annual revenue of over $1 billion, while also contributing to the overall growth of the company. By equipping them with a competitive inventory management solution, this updated experience allowed the company to thrive alongside its rivals.
