Creating one of the first sites for staying up to date with eSports
The Challenge
In 2017, the world of eSports was just starting to gain popularity, making its way into the mainstream. However, it was clear that there was a big gap: there weren't many ways for eSports fans to keep up with their favorite teams and players. There were only a few options available, like browsing through Reddit forums or watching live matches. Fans craved a dedicated platform, like an "ESPN" for eSports, where they could easily find scores, results, and even dive into a wealth of stats and historical data. This was the solution they were longing for.
The Solution
To tackle this challenge, we identified the specific information users wanted about eSports and developed a site navigation system to meet these needs. eSports365 was designed to enhance exploration with a homepage displaying the latest match results for easy access to detailed information. But the site also allowed users to explore historical results, statistics, and information about players, teams, and events. We implemented several unique features, including a top-notch statistics tool for every event. Moreover, the site utilized custom web-scraping scripts to automatically update match results, eliminating the need for manual submissions. These scripts used cutting-edge pattern analysis techniques to extract data from sources like Reddit, which was then converted into a practical format and stored on the website for statistical purposes.
The Results
The innovative approach to generating a greater quantity of easily navigable eSports content gained traction among the community. Within a span of merely three months, the website managed to accumulate an impressive total of over 300,000 site views. The users, in addition to conveniently accessing their preferred matches, reaped the rewards of its well-designed layout which allowed them to delve into intriguing past outcomes and delve into historical statistics.
The site's comprehensive and reliable statistics attracted the attention of popular eSports news sites, who frequently referenced and utilized its data in their articles. The accuracy and depth of information provided by the site positioned it as a go-to source for journalists seeking official and up-to-date statistics for their eSports coverage.
